As with anything, when it comes to universal remotes, you get what you pay for. Purpose built universal remotes like the Logitech series are often more expensive, but come packed with a variety of useful features and ofcourse warranty and a quality build. However sometimes you really don’t need that much in terms of features and so a cheaper device may do the job for you. This can be a double edged sword though, because if a remote is under $10 then it may or may not last a year or it may not even be compatible with certain devices. So it’s best to look for something in between, if you are short on cash. Don’t go for anything too cheap, as it can be glitch and problematic.  Here are some of the best universal remote’s that are AFFORDABLE but not entirely “cheap”.

1. The Logitech Harmony 350 Universal Remote Control

This remote is one of the entry models for the Logitech series. It is not as expensive as it’s older brother the Logitech 650, but it retains most of the main features such as supporting up to 8 devices. So if you buy one of these, you will never need another remote control again. From all the remotes we are going to list here in the Affordable section this is the best value for money.

2. Sony RM-AV2500 Fully Editable Universal Remote Control

Sony has made a lot of great devices over the years and this is maybe one of the coolest. It’s one of the cheapest remotes that comes packed with this many features, including a full LCD display, support for up to 12 devices and many other features. The design is very unique as far as remotes go, but it does the job and customers have all given it outstanding reviews. Its programmable which means you can set-up certain channels, and commands all on a single button press. All of this is detailed in it’s manual.

3. The Harry Potter Remote Control WAND

Can you guess what this is from the name? Yep. It’s a wand that you can use as a remote haha. You can literally flick the want left and right up and down and twist it to do different things on your tv/dvd/sound system.  This has to be one of the coolest little twists on a universal remote we’ve seen. Coming in at under $50 it’s not expensive either. It’s compatible with all the major brands such as Sony, Panasonic, Samsung and so forth, anything that is controlled with IR can be controlled by this want. Again the only shortfall is the programming, which takes some time but once you do it it’s easy going.

4. RCA RCRP05BR 5 Device Cable Replacement Universal Remote

The RCA universal replacement remote is the cheapest and best value-for-money remote you can get, while still being super compatible with all major brands and it supports up to 5 devices. It’s a very standard remote, no wands or fancy LCD screens. Easily programmable, strong signalling and good battery life. It’s overall a very durable and resilient remote that will work on all you devices. The only downside is it has none of the extra features such as back-lit buttons so you can see in the dark, but it can work with Blu-ray, DVD players, Dolby surround sound setups (volume control) as well as ofcourse your TV.
